When I announced I was taking my boys, then aged 9 and 11, solo to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the reaction from my friends was "that's brave" or "are you sure?" Having visited Edinburgh previously with my boys, I was undeterred but decided to break up the shows with doing some tourist stuff as well. The boys loved it.
