Edinburgh with children

I love Edinburgh. I first visited as a child with my grandparents. As an adult, I enjoyed a friend’s hen weekend in the city and then did a long day-trip with my now husband. However, I’ve probably enjoyed visiting Edinburgh most with my children.

Edinburgh has so much to offer for children (and their parents). From wonderful museums and Edinburgh Castle to the Dungeons and Zoo. A personal favourite is chocolate making and tasting at the Chocolatarium.

I would strongly recommend timing your visit to experience one of the many festivals hosted in Edinburgh throughout the year. The Fringe Festival every August is known across the world. However, lesser known festivals such as the Science Festival (held broadly over the schools’ 2 week Easter holidays) and the International Children’s Festival (over the schools’ late May holidays) are also worth checking out. And then there’s also the Military Tattoo which should be experienced at least once.
